Shamya Karumbaiah

Shamya Karumbaiah is an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Psychology. She earned my PhD from the University of Pennsylvania working as a research fellow at the Penn Center for Learning Analytics. Her dissertation investigated bias in the upstream sources (theory, design, methods) that shape adaptive decision-making in artificially intelligent educational systems. Karumbaiah has a master’s in computer science from UMass Amherst with an emphasis on machine learning and a bachelor’s in computer science from SJCE, India. Before coming to UW-Madison, she was a postdoctoral fellow at Carnegie Mellon University in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute.
