Additional information about the retreat
Most academics find it hard to set aside time for scientific writing. Writing retreats can help them achieve their writing goals. The second Writing Retreat of the Institute for Diversity Science will take place in June 2025.
You’ll find a preliminary program below. The goal is to accomplish a lot of writing and enjoy nature. Our family farm is the ideal setting for that. It’s a 75-min drive from Madison. There are enough tables and chairs (and computer displays) so that up to 10 participants can isolate themselves and focus on writing. When it’s time for a break participants can jump in the pool, brush the horses, or go for a stroll in the woods.
Participants will be in single and double rooms. There are two bathrooms (plus one outdoor shower) for 8 participants and the hosts. Remember that it is a farm, not a resort.
The Writing Retreat is a three-day event. Activities start at 11:30 am on Day 1 (June 20) and end at 11:30 am on Day 3 (June 22). Only participants who stay for the entire retreat can register. On Day 3, you can decide to either go home at 11:30 am, or hang out at the farm until the end of the afternoon. Feel free to tell your family to come to the farm on Day 3. Maybe they too want to feed Rudi the pig or jump in the pool.
